More Team News and Visit information

Plenty of additional news tonight on the Steelers, Terrence Newman and Kelley Washington as well as more information on player visits as we make our way closer to the draft.

Are the Saints ready to take Jason Witten with one of their picks in the first round? Though New Orleans has not flown the big Tennessee tight end into the Big Easy for a visit and have no immediate plans to do so, sources tell us they have scouted him from head-to-toe after spending significant time with Witten at the combine. The feeling is they have enough information on him and will expend one of their consecutive picks in the initial frame for his services. Houston also brought Witten in for a look.

Speaking of prospects from Knoxville, we hear a lot of red flags have been thrown up on Kelley Washington. While he's checked out medically the main concern is his attitude and the "me first" image Washington has projected at Tennessee. Several sources told us Washington is not highly thought of by his Volunteer teammates and there was a lot of finger pointing in his direction after an early season loss to Florida. Then there is the aftermath of the Dante' Stallworth incident from last season when Washington reversed course on his teammate at the last minute.

One thing scouts are having a tough time overlooking is the sheer athletic skill of Washington. Even just toying around with the football his natural abilities stand out and leave scouts drooling.

On with more visits. Sammy Davis has been a busy prospect as the Steelers, Titans, Chiefs and Jets have all flown him into their facilities to give the A&M corner the once over.

Pittsburgh also had Alabama defensive lineman Jarrett Johnson in for a visit and feel he'd be a perfect fit as a two-gap end in their system. They also love his motor and passion for the game.

Johnson's teammates Kindal Moorehead and Kenny King have not made any trips as teams are struggling as to which positions each will play at the next level. King, a tackle in college, is undersized for the interior while many are concerned Moorehead's lack of height will be a hindrance at right end.

Used at both outside and inside linebacker at the Senior Bowl prior to working out in the middle spot during the combine, LSU's Bradie James is viewed by most teams as a SAM linebacker at the next level. The Green Bay Packers recently sent a contingent of scouts down south to personally work out James.

If they don't take an offensive tackle early in the draft the Panthers could look to Will Ofenhesle in the middle rounds as the Volunteer blocker was recently in Carolina.

The Houston Texans have been very busy; after bringing Andre Johnson and Terrell Suggs to their complex for a visit yesterday it was the turn of Willis McGahee and Terrence Newman today. Tomorrow Charles Rogers comes calling. Our source tell us McGahee is moving around without a limp.

As far as Newman is concerned, we've been told the reports of teams red-flagging him over a shoulder injury are true. We first reported this incident live from the combine and will have a more detailed report tomorrow.

Terrell Suggs is making the rounds visiting teams at the top of the draft and has already sat down in Detroit, Chicago and Arizona.

Another Pac Ten pass rusher, Tully Banta-Cain, is drawing strong interest from the San Francisco 49ers.
