53-man projections

53-man projections

The magic number is 53. Which 53-players will make-up the 2012 Cleveland Browns? Here's our guess!

Fred Greetham

Here's my best guess for the 53:

QB -- Brandon Weeden, Colt McCoy, Thaddeus Lewis (3)

RB -- Trent Richardson, Montario Hardesty, Brandon Jackson (3)

FB -- Owen Marecic, Brad Smelley (2)

OL -- Joe Thomas, Jason Pinkston, Alex Mack, Shawn Lauvao, Mitchell Schwartz, Ryan Miller, John Greco, Oniel Cousins (8)

TE -- Ben Watson, Jordan Cameron, Alex Smith, Evan Moore (4)

WR -- Mo Massaquoi, Greg Little, Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin, Josh Cribbs, Jordan Norwood (6)

DL -- Jabaal Sheard, Juqua Parker, Ahtyba Rubin, Billy Winn, John Hughes, Scott Paxson, Frostee Rucker, Emmanuel Stephens, Brian Schaefering (8)

LB -- Scott Fujita, D'Qwell Jackson, Kaluka Maiava, James-Michael Johnson, L.J. Fort, Craig Robertson (6)

CB -- Joe Haden, Sheldon Brown, Buster Skrine, Dimitri Patterson, Trevin Wade (5)

S -- T.J. Ward, Eric Hagg, Usama Young, David Sims (4)

K -- Phil Dawson (1)

P -- Reggie Hodges (1)

LS -- Christian Yount (1)

My opinion of the toughest two position decisions :

1. QB --The obvious biggest decision, as far as high profile, is what the Browns do with the quarterbacks after Brandon Weeden. Many want the Browns to just cut bait and trade or release Colt McCoy outright to clear any possible perceived competition between the two.

The thought is Seneca Wallace is about the same guy as McCoy. However, McCoy is 25 and is only about 20% of the salary cap compared to Wallace. The comments made by Pat Shurmur about Thaddeus Lewis being 'a guy worth developing' doesn't mean to me that they're going to keep him, as someone else could develop him. However, I see the Browns keeping McCoy as the backup and Lewis as No.3, releasing Wallace.

2. TE --The Browns have five pretty good tight ends in camp and many teams only keep two.

However, with Ben Watson having three concussions and an unknown injury currently, he might not last the season. Evan Moore was the backup last year, but didn't block, thus the need for Alex Smith.

Jordan Cameron is the wild card and he seems to be much improved as a blocker. He's very similar to Moore and it's hard to believe the Browns will keep four tight ends, but I think it might turn out that way. Dan Gronkowski has also shown some flash and he's a blocker, as well.

Dave Kolonich

Here's my guess.

Probably a couple new free agents will make the final 53-man roster. I would also think that a couple more players could be placed on an Injured list before the regular season starts as well.

QB -- Brandon Weeden, Colt McCoy, Thad Lewis (3)

RB -- Trent Richardson, Brandon Jackson, Chris Ogbannaya, Montario Hardesty (4)

FB -- Owen Marecic, Brad Smelley (2)

OL -- Joe Thomas, Jason Pinkston, Alex Mack, Shawn Lauvao, Mitchell Schwartz, Ryan Miller, John Greco, New Free Agent (8)

TE -- Ben Watson, Jordan Cameron, Alex Smith, Evan Moore (4)

WR -- Mo Massaquoi, Greg Little, Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin, Josh Cribbs, Jordan Norwood (6)

DL -- Jabaal Sheard, Juqua Parker, Ahtyba Rubin, Billy Winn, John Hughes, Scott Paxson, Frostee Rucker, Emmanuel Stephens, Ronnie Cameron (9)

LB -- Scott Fujita, D'Qwell Jackson, Kaluka Maiava, James-Michael Johnson, L.J. Fort, New Free Agent (6)

CB -- Joe Haden, Sheldon Brown, Buster Skrine, Dimitri Patterson, Trevin Wade (5)

S -- T.J. Ward, Eric Hagg, James Dockery, David Sims (4)

K -- Phil Dawson (1)

P -- Reggie Hodges (1)

LS -- Christian Yount (1)

We all know the stereotype that is associated with a NFL wide receiver: diva. They seem to be everywhere in the professional ranks. Cleveland was not immune to the problem. Braylon Edwards flashed some unbelievable game-breaking talent during his time with the Browns, but the area between his ears left a lot to be desired.

Seven years (and may dropped balls) after the Browns selected Edwards with the third overall pick, Josh Gordon has arrived in town. At 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, he has the look of a No. 1 wide receiver. Yet in two preseason games and numerous practices, it appears he has raw athletic talent, but questionable maturity to harness that talent. Gordon can be seen taking plays off, running poor routes and dropping balls. He has also shown flashes of that game-breaking talent the Browns offense so desperately needs.

I know it's still early, but what are your feelings on Gordon? Was he worth the risk in the supplemental draft? Can he develop and mature into a big-time, non-diva professional wide receiver or are you too concerned about his problematic past?
