Mike Holmgren denied the rumors that said he might be interested in the Cowboys coaching job should it become available.
“That goes against everything I believe in,” Holmgren said. “I want to be very, very clear on that. The last I talked to guys about my future was (Browns media). Honestly , I don’t know what my future holds.”
Holmgren said he doesn’t feel right talking about a position when there’s not one available.
“I am always bothered when coaches are doing what they do to try and win games and I would not do that,” he said. “Please help me with that. I have no idea how anything like that got started. Now, you’re getting it straight from the horse’s mouth.”
Holmgren said he was in Arizona with his wife during the bye week and when he returned to Cleveland he was made aware of the rumors.
Shurmur was asked about the rumors over the weekend of Holmgren possibly be interested in becoming the Cowboys head coach should Jason Garrett be fired.
“I don’t know (what Holmgren’s thinking),” Shurmur said. That’s what he was (a coach) for a long time. You probably need to ask him that question.”
Shurmur said he doesn’t see that being a distraction for the Browns as they prepare to head to Dallas.
“I don’t think that’s a distraction for (the team),” Shurmur said. “As far as I know, the Cowboys have a coach.”
