Roster cuts Are In !

Posted Aug 22, 2003

The first cuts are in, and the only minor surprise is the release of cornerback Nashville Dyer. The free agent from Kent State is still eligible to be placed on the five-man practice squad after 4 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Dyer was one of 13 players released by the Steelers, who need to cut three more by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Steelers have two roster exemptions -- Jabari Issa and Mike Cook -- from NFL Europe and can carry two over the 65-man limit for the time being.

The Steelers' other cuts were defensive tackle Roy Attieh, linebacker Dantonio Burnette, offensive tackle Jack Fadule, safety Rashad Faison, quarterback Tim Levcik, fullback Wes Ours, punter Glenn Pakulak, tight end Casey Poppinga, kicker Jonathan Ruffin, wide receiver Lamar Slade, wide receiver Leonard Scott and quarterback Phil Stambaugh.

Teams must reduce their rosters to the final 53 players by 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31.
