Steelers sign kicker
The 6-foot, 212-pound Markham was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie free agent on April 10, 2003 before being released during training camp.
Markham was a four-year standout at Vanderbilt University, where he also punted. He converted 26-of-34 field-goal attempts (76.5 percent) during his last two years and scored 209 career points, which set a school record.
With Reed out until June after having surgery to repair cartilage in his hip, Markham will handle many of the kicking duties in the team's June minicamp. He could also push Reed for the job if he has a good season in NFL Europe and the Steelers are not optimistic about Reed's recovery.
