The Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Marvin Philip leaves them with two second-day draft picks yet to sign -- quarterback Omar Jacobs (5a) and running back Cedric Humes (7). The Steelers haven't signed any of their three first-round picks (Santonio Holmes, Anthony Smith, Willie Reid).
Philip signed a three-year contract with a $59,150 bonus. He'll be paid the league minimum each year.
He's a 6-1, 307-pounder who anchored the Cal line the last two seasons. Philip helped pave the way for a 2,000-yard rusher (J.J. Arrington) in 2004 and two 1,000-yard rushers (Marshawn Lynch, Justin Forsett) in 2005. Philip was the Pac 10's first-team center last season and was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy.
The Steelers will report Friday, run Saturday and practice Sunday at 1 p.m. Their first preseason game is 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Arizona.
