Cobbs rushed for 188 yards on 38 carries (4.9 avg.) and three touchdowns this preseason. He also caught seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.
In 2003, Cobbs led all Division 1-A rushers by averaging 152.7 yards per game. The super sophomore ripped off nine consecutive 100-yard games that season and set a Sun Belt Conference rushing record for rushing yards in a season.
Cobbs broke his thumb prior to his junior season, and then tore a knee ligament in the second game and missed the rest of the season. His replacement followed Cobbs as the national rushing champ that season, but Cobbs returned in 2005 to rush for 1,154 yards to lead the Sun Belt Conference.
Considered too small and slow, Cobbs wasn't drafted last April, but the ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic All-American proved his speed in pads this summer with an outstanding preseason for the Patriots.
