Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala can also fill in at fullback if needed. The
Steelers have no draft need here.
#1
Andrew
Pinnock
6’ 0”
255 lbs
South Carolina – Senior
Pinnock has become the premier back for the Gamecocks. A better runner
than blocker or receiver, Pinnock is good at gaining yards after the initial
contact. Shows patience as a runner and is good at finding the running
lanes. May have trouble finding a role for himself on a team unless they
bring him in as a running back.
Looking to be drafted: Third Round
#2
B.
J. Askew
6’ 3”
228 lbs
Michigan – Senior
Askew finds himself in a difficult position. He is a solid overall
player who excels in the short yardage ground game. He blocks well in
space and has the hands to be a threat in the passing game. The downside
is that he is not overly dominant in any part of his game. Might be better
suited in an H-back role.
Looking to be drafted: Third Round
#3
Brandon
Drumm
6’ 1”
229 lbs
Colorado – Senior
Drumm is perhaps the best blocking fullback coming out this year. A
devastating blocker on the college level, Drumm may need to add some bulk to be
effective in the pros. Has the athletic ability to contribute in the
passing game and short yardage running game.
Looking to be drafted: Fourth Round
#4
Jeremi
Johnson
5’ 10”
270 lbs
Western Kentucky – Senior
A massive man, Johnson has the ability to make his own holes, due to his
size. A better runner at this point than a blocker, Johnson has the build
to be a devastating blocker if he can learn the position better. Potential
alone should allow him to be drafted.
Looking to be drafted: Fifth Round
#5
Casey
Moore
6’ 1”
250 lbs
Stanford
Moore comes out of Stanford as a solid blocker and receiving prospect.
Good in isolation blocking as well as the short passing game, Moore has the
ability to help teams who already have a feature back.
Looking to be drafted: Sixth Round
Undrafted Free Agents
Blake Bourque
6’ 1”
245 lbs
Louisiana – Lafayette - Senior
Bourque is a much better blocker at this point than anything else. Has
decent hands and can contribute in the passing game, but isn’t much of a
threat to run the ball.
Kris
Briggs
5’ 11”
231 lbs
Southern Methodist – Senior
Briggs is a decent all-around prospect who could draw attention from teams
looking to groom someone. A solid straight-line runner who excels
receiving out of the backfield.
Chris
Davis
6’ 0”
230 lbs
Syracuse
Davis is a decent blocker but only a marginal running back. Plays on
both kickoff and punt coverage units. Also was the team's long snapper.
Claude
Diggs
6’ 0”
245 lbs
Richmond – Senior
Diggs is a raw prospect, but has shown ability as both a blocker and as a
running back. A quick burst and good footwork might be enough for a team
to bring him in and see if they can get something out of him.
Justin
Griffith
5’ 11”
223 lbs
Mississippi State – Senior
A neck injury has sidelined Griffith for much of the past couple of years.
His size may limit his effectiveness as a blocking fullback and while he is a
decent runner, he may not have the speed or the skills to be a pro running back.
Chad
Killian
6’ 2”
265 lbs
Maryland
Killian is not only a solid blocker and runner for the Terps, but is also one
of the strongest players on the team, benching 470 lbs.
Tom
Lopienski
6’ 1”
249 lbs
Notre Dame – Senior
Lopienski will have a hard time sticking in the pros due to his lack of
athletic ability. While he is a very efficient straight-line blocker,
Lopienski struggles in space. He is also a minimal threat to run the ball
or in the passing game.
Malaefou
MacKenzie
5’ 11”
225 lbs
Southern California – Senior
MacKenzie is more an H-Back than fullback. While his blocking is
average, he is a solid receiver out of the backfield. However, Mackenzie
is not much of a threat running the ball.
Dawan
Moss
5’ 10”
235 lbs
Michigan State – Senior
After starting 17 games as the Michigan State fullback, Moss shed over 30
pounds in order to take over the running back spot vacated by T.J. Duckett after
last season. Moss has not shown much ability as a feature back and his
best hopes may lie in putting the weight back on and shifting back over to
fullback, where he was very solid his sophomore and junior seasons.
Ovie
Mughelli
6’ 1”
250 lbs
Wake Forest
A good all-around prospect, Mughelli is solid in both the receiving game and
as a short yardage runner, but where he really shines is in his blocking.
Mughelli is just as good pass blocking as he is run blocking. If a team
needs a true blocking fullback, it might want to look here.
Kevin
O’Connell
6’ 2”
246 lbs
Idaho
O’Connell is a decent athlete, first coming to Idaho as a quarterback
before switching to tight end. Finally at fullback he found his calling,
showing good blocking skills as well as decent hands coming out of the
backfield.
JT
Wall
5’ 11”
253 lbs
Georgia – Senior
A solid blocker, Wall took over the fullback duties from Verron Haynes after
he switched to tailback his senior season. While not offering a lot in the
area of running back or receiver, Wall is a very solid blocker and could stick
with a team that needs a true blocking fullback.
Joe Weber
5’ 11”
230 lbs
Texas A&M – Senior
A solid fullback who is a better runner and receiver than a blocker.
Has put together two good back-to-back seasons at the position, but is still
learning how to block.
