TE Tuman Signed

Posted Feb 28, 2003

The Steelers took care of a potential problem area by signing tight end Jerame Tuman to a three-year deal $3.3 million with a $600,000 S.B.

With replacements needed at left tackle and strong safety, as well as at back-up quarterback, the Steelers didn’t want to go into the off-season with a need at tight end, too.

Tuman will enter his fifth season with the Steelers with 12 receptions for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s finished the last two seasons as the starter after injuries to Mark Bruener, who’ll enter his 9th season with the team.

Tuman was one of four tight ends on the roster who would’ve become unrestricted free agents tomorrow, March 1. The others are John Allred, Marco Battaglia and Matt Cushing.
