2003: 40 TT, 32 Solo, 8 Assts, 0 SpT, 8.0 Sacks, 2.5 TFL, 0 FF, 1 FR, 0 Int, 0 PD
The 2003 season was Kimo von Oelhoffen’s career-best as he led the Steelers with 8 sacks (for 42 yards). Kimo registered 40 tackles for the season and recorded 2 passes defensed. He presented real problems to opposing offenses that thought they could concentrate more on blocking Casey Hampton and Aaron Smith, and played the season with perhaps the most strength and aggressiveness of his 10-year career.
2002: 22 Total Tackles - 12 Solo, 10 ASSTs, 3 Sacks, 2 Stuffs. 0 FFs, 0 INTs, 2 PDs. Kimo remains solid at the RDE position and coninues to be, along with Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton, part of the best front 3 for the Steelers defense since the 90's. He came on strong late in the season with a fumble recovery against Carolina, a 4-yard sack and a pass defensed against Tampa Bay, and a 7-yard sack along with 3 solo tackles against Tennssee in the playoffs.
The Steelers acquired Kimo Von Oelhoffen as an UFA from Cincinnati in 2000. Kimo was a defensive tackle at Cincinnati, and
the Steelers saw him as a good fit for the 3-4 defensive end position, but they also projected him as an option at nose tackle. They apparently did their homework well because he wound up the starter at the role for the entire 2000 season and performed
admirably. 2001 saw him as the starter at right end. After a solid season at right end and as a veteran leader of the defense who served as a mentor to first-round 2001 pick Casey Hampton, the Steelers signed him to a 4-year extension in 2002. He was originally a sixth-round draft pick (out of Boise State) in 1994 by the Bengals.
