| Biography: |
2003: (Receiving) 12 Recs, 113 Yds, 9.4 Avg, 23 Lg, 0 TDs
Jerame Tuman moved into the starting lineup in 2003 to replace injured Jay Riemersma and had a solid season. He started 11 of 16 games. Against Cincinnati in September, Tuman caught a pass from Tommy Maddox, on a fake punt, for a 23-yard reception and nearly scored the touchdown. Tuman is signed with the Steelers through the 2005 season and looks to be the starting tight end going into 2004 camp.
2002: (Receiving) 4 RECs for 63 YDs, 1 TD - 15.8 AVG. 0 FUMs.
After limited play in the first part of the season (missed 4 games with a quad injury), Jerame again came through for the Steelers, as in 2001, after Mark Bruener's season was cut short with a shoulder injury. The 2002 season saw Jerame putting to rest any remaining doubts of his ability to block for the running game. 2003 will be a very interesting season for him, with the possibility that Mark Bruener may not be able to return, and the signing of Jay Riemersma. In February 2003, the Steelers signed Jerame, who had become an UFA, to a 3-year contract.
A fifth round draft pick in 1999 (Michigan), the Steelers liked Jerame's receiving skills. In the 2001 season, Tuman was called on to take the starting TE spot after Mark Bruener was injured for the season. The extra size he had put on during the off-season served him well and he quieted some of the doubts of his blocking ability. At Michigan, Jerame is 11th in career receptions with 98 and 13th in reception yardage with 1,279. He was named consensus first-team All-Big Ten his senior year and first-team Football News All-America his junior year.
