| Biography: |
| In January 2004, Dick LeBeau returned to the Steelersh to Tim Lewis as Steelers defensive coordinator. It’s hoped that he will recapture the aggressive characteristics that marked his first stint in Pittsburgh during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. LeBeau had been the Steelers’ secondary coach from 1992-94 before being promoted to the coordinator position during the Super Bowl season of 1995. He left after the 1996 season to hold the same position with the Cincinnati, where he makes his home, and eventually become head coach there.
While an assistant coach in Cincinatti in the late 80s, LeBeau designed the zone-blitzing 3-4 scheme that the Steelers started utilizing after LeBeau joined up with them in the 90s. The Steelers finished third and second in the league in overall defense in 1995 and 1996, respectively, with LeBeau as defensive coordinator.
“Philosophically, Coach Bill and I have always been on the same page, and that is attack,” LeBeau said of his working with Bill Cowher again. “We will be a pressure defense and I know the head coach feels that way too.”
