How Acquired: Drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft (65th overall).
Scouting Report: Small, quick receiver with extraordinary hands. Branch has the ability to find space in opponent's zone coverages with ease. Excellent route runner, and elusive ball-carrier after the catch. Doesn't have breakaway speed, but is rarely caught from behind. Will avoid contact when possible preferring to fight another day.
Pro Career: Career high for receptions with 13 against the San Diego Chargers (09/29/02) ... Finished second among AFC rookies with 43 receptions and third with 489 yards receiving his rookie year, missing three games after missing three games due to injury ... Top receiver in Super Bowl XXXVIII, 10 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown ... Led all NFL receiver sin the 2004 playoffs with 16 ctches for 264 yards ... Was named Super Bowl XXXIX MVP.
College: Louisville.
Had 143 passes for 2,204 yards (15.4 avg) and 18 touchdowns in his time at Louisville (2000-01). Earned team MVP honors following the 2000 season.
Personal: Born July 18, 1979 as Anthony Branch. Played football and ran track at Monroe (Albany, Ga.) High, lettering in both. Was a communications major at Louisville.
