A determined prospect who consistently gives top effort, McDonald is an intense defender who can be used at a variety of positions. Offers potential as a two-gap end and may even be given consideration as a three-technique tackle. His potential at the next level hinges on his ability to remain healthy.


Biography:

Moved into the starting lineup as a freshman and earned All-Conference honors last season. Senior totals were 36/4.5/3. Started three games as a junior before missing the rest of the season after knee surgery. Career-best numbers of 54/8/4 came as a freshman.

Pos:

Disruptive lineman effective at both the end and tackle positions. Explodes off the snap with a great first step, fires through the gaps and plays with good pad level. Immediately alters his angle of attack, redirects to the action and pursues from the backside. Effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Fast off the edge and consistently gives top effort.

Neg:

Can be handled at the point by a single blocker. Has had a lot of problems staying healthy in college, and has undergone two knee surgeries.

2005: Moved from defensive tackle to defensive end during preseason drills…Started the first three games of the season before having to sit out the next three contests with a knee injury that required surgery…Reappeared in the lineup against LSU and Georgia before sitting out the remainder of the season after having a second and season-ending surgery on his injured knee…Finished the season with eight tackles, including three for a net loss of 13 yards, as well as one sack for a loss of nine yards…Recorded three tackles against Georgia, including one solo and two assisted efforts… Recorded two solo tackles for loss (12 yards) in the Gators' home opener against Wyoming, as well as one sack which resulted in a loss of nine yards…

2004: A starting defensive tackle…Saw action in 11 games (all except Middle Tennessee State) with seven starts (Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Miami) for 572 plays, second among defensive linemen…Third among defensive linemen with 39 tackles…Led the team with 10 tackles for a loss…Four quarterback hurries ranked second on the team…Had a tackle for a loss in seven of the last nine games of the season…Led all defensive linemen in tackles at Tennessee, vs. Arkansas and at Florida State…Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after season-high seven tackles at FSU including career-high two sacks…Third on the team and first among defensive linemen with four tackles, all unassisted vs. Miami in the Peach Bowl…Also contributed on special teams on the punt and extra point and field goal block teams…

2003: Moved inside to DT from DE during the preseason and won the starting job, starting 12 games (all except Florida State)…Was only the fourth defensive lineman in UF history to start as a freshman in the season opener (Reggie McGrew started in 1996, Mark Campbell in 1992 and Phillip Johnson in 1989)…Was the only freshman defensive lineman in school history to start 12 games…Tied for fifth in the nation in tackles for loss by a freshman and tied for sixth in the nation for sacks by a freshman…Led the defensive tackles and ranked second among UF defensive linemen with 54 tackles…Also had eight TFL, four sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups…Tied for second on the team with
