| Biography: |
2002: 54 Total Tackles - 46 Solo, 8 ASSTs, 0 Sacks, 1 Stuff. 1 FF, 3 INTs for 51 YDs, 17 PDs. 2002 Saw Dewayne, again, often matched against the opposition's best receveiver. A little more quarterback pressure by the Steeler defense would have helped him during the season. He had a great game against Baltimore in October, registering his first interception of the season as well as 6 tackles (5 solo), 2 quarterback hits/pressures, and a fumble recovery. Against Cleveland the following week, he logged his second interception for a 23-yard return. Jacksonville in December - Dewayne knocked down a pass for a crucial 2-point conversion in the last minute of the game. His third interception was against Cincinatti in December, preventing a game-winning drive to seal the game. Dewayne remains a dependable tackler and savvy cornerback who can make the clutch play against the most talented receiver.
Dewayne Washington was a first round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 1994 out of North Carolina State. The Steelers signed him as an UFA 1998 and he began that season as their starting RCB. In 2001 he signed an extension to end his career in Pittsburgh
Dewayne is regarded as one of the most durable cornerbacks in the NFL. His skills are among the most well-rounded in the league as he combines good coverage ability with fierce run support and tackling.
